University of North Georgia The Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis (IESA) was formed in 2001 on UNG’s Gainesville Campus. IESA promotes education through the use of advanced technology, interdisciplinary instruction, collaborative learning, and community service and outreach. The institute brings together the perspectives of numerous disciplines through the synthesis of geospatial science and technology, applied techniques, and theory to address social, human and environmental issues. Students, faculty and staff work together with industry, government and community partners through their coursework resulting in a dynamic and socially relevant learning environment.

IESA offers the Associate of Science degree with advising areas of concentrated study in geography or geology. In addition, IESA offers the Bachelor of Science in environmental spatial analysis (ESA). ESA is a blend of both education and preparation designed to produce graduates with skills that meet workforce needs in the geospatial science and technology field with little or no further preparation by employers. The ESA degree is composed of a focused curriculum built around advanced geospatial science and technology and includes the opportunity for students to individualize their learning experience through directed elective coursework in computing and information technology, earth systems, engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, geoscience, and other areas.

 LocationTech LocationTech is a working group developing advanced location aware technologies.

The working group is hosted by the Eclipse Foundation. Eclipse is a vendor neutral community for individuals and organizations who wish to collaborate on commercially-friendly open source software. The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit, member supported corporation that hosts technology projects and helps cultivate both an open source community and an ecosystem of complementary products and services.
